I’ve been collecting found photos of certain subjects and themes for the past couple of months. So I undoubtedly go through a lot of them. I was going through a bin in Brooklyn, and I kept coming across this woman and her two boys. As a supreme pack rat, I hold a loose rule for myself- that I wouldn’t collect any photos that go beyond the set themes/subjects I’m working on. So I reluctantly let that family go and moved on.
6 months later, I went back to the same place to look for more photos (they come in and out in random spurts from estate sales), and there they were, again. I saw this family so many times from the first time I was there at that bin that this strange familiarity had such a strong hold on me.
Some of the photos are so great that I feel like I have to do it some justice and produce some sort of family album, so I got them.
I started to sort them by date (about 65% have printed dates) and event:

Unfortunately, almost all the backs of these photos are blank. All I know is that the woman’s name is Esther, but that’s about all it, for now anyway.
Here’s a pair of my favorite:

The boy on the left is the older child of the family and the right is probably a neighborhood friend, because he never again reappears.
More updates to come.
